Newport Beach Dentist, Dana Rockey – Featured Speaker on The Relationship Between Oral-Systemic Health
On December 8 at 7:00 p.m., Dr Dana Rockey will be the featured speaker at event to be held in Glendora, California, talking about the connection between nutrition and the body’s system-wide health. With the launch of Dr. Rockey’s Newport Beach dental practice, he has committed to championing “wellness-based” healthcare and dentistry. Dr. Rockey has a knack and passion for educating his patients in order to help them reach their goal of leading healthy lifestyles.
Although he was a successful dentist, running a thriving dental practice in Rancho Santa Margarita, Dr. Rockey explains that he reached a place in his life that he refers as “quiet desperation”. At that time, almost four years ago, he was 50 lbs. overweight, and taking medications for cholesterol and blood pressure. “I was very unhealthy back then. I realized that unless I took the responsibility for my health, that my future was predictable and likely not very bright”, Dr. Rockey said.
Looking back on his 3-1/2 year journey, Dr. Rockey recognizes the importance that good nutrition and exercise have played in getting him to where he is today – fifty pounds lighter and medication-free! He walks daily, grows organic fruits and vegetables in his back yard; he has incorporated a whole food tablets into his nutrition regimen (Juice Plus+), and he takes time for things that he enjoys: cars, music, hiking, and spending time with his wife and children.
When it comes to the importance of dentistry and health, Dr. Rockey notes that “we’re on the verge of proving that 1 in 2 heart attacks are related to Periodontal Disease. The mouth is connected to the body, and it very much directly impacts the health of the brain, heart and arterial system. Certain bacterias in the mouth are clearly related to inflammation, Alzheimer’s disease, pre-term labor, heart attacks and more.” In his new practice, Dr. Rockey offers Oral and Systemic Diagnostics screenings that allow him to assist his patients in progressive new ways to maintain their optimal health.
In his Dec. 8th, 2015 presentation, Dr. Rockey will share his personal journey to health, and he will discuss how people can improve their dental and overall health through nutrition.
